Dear Gov. LePage,
I greatly commend you on your stance on domestic violence in this state. It is a pernicious evil that needs to be rooted out with the offenders being properly punished so that they can not go on to murder their victim. I propose that there be a registry enacted throughout the state (and online) that lists any and all persons convicted of domestic violence with the term of registration being similar to that of the *** offender registry. I think this would serve to provide the public with information pertaining to dangerous predators and possibly help to prevent future unkowing victims. I am extremely proud that you are taking this difficult subject and bringing it to light and placing the blame where it belongs, which is solely on the perpetrator. Thank you for your time.

the Virginia Tech massacre of April 16, 2007, in which a gunman brutally murdered 32 students and faculty members and injured 17 more before killing himself while no one was capable of stopping him, not even campus police.

Thousands of responsible gun owners in Maine register every year for concealed carry permits. All of which are rigorously screened. Criminals could care less about laws that they so break, and the lifes they harm and will carry reguardless if its a gun free zone.

Time and time again gun free zones have showed increase of violent crimes from murder to ****, all could have been avoided. There is evidence to show that crimes in other areas where someone who has a CCW has stopped a crime. Several with out death to further innocent lives.

Maine has shown that we believe in the second amendment, and responsible gun ownership and have identified that criminals pay no attention to rules, laws or signs and those they hurt. CCW permit holders care, lets keep Mainers safe by Mainers.

I believe that fines for traffic violations, petty crimes and unpaid fines lead to disdain and contempt towards the government. I believe that a much better system would be to make those people do community service, that way projects could be accomplished that would normally not be done. Things that could be considered for community service would be landscaping of towns, parks and countrysides, cleaning up rubbish from wherever, and painting things. Other things could of course be thought of and added and maybe have a website similar to this one where people could post things that they would like to see done in their town. The people participating in these events could also be volunteers if they chose to be, but there would never be a lack of able bodies as long as people keep breaking laws. And the whole fact of charging people money for crime is counterproductive anyways, the fact that most people do crime in the first place is lack of resources so stifling their resources even more isn't the best available option. Besides this mandatory community service, depending on what service that was being done, would teach people new skills, perhaps steering their life in a new more positive direction.
