EBT cards should be used ONLY for buying essentials, not beer and cigarettes!
It is DISGRACEFUL to waste taxpayers money providing beer and cigarettes with EBT cards. If these people are so destitute that they need public assistance, I'm more than willing to help supply basic products but not beer and cigarettes....if they want them, GO TO WORK!

ebt cards are for food stamps and for TANF, and TANF is cash. they can use it to pay for anything, its supposed to be for bills, but people can use it at an atm and get cash off of it. so when you see someone using an ebt card for non food items its most likely not the foodstamps part theyre using it's the TANF part. ebt cards dont allow people to buy beer or cigarettes atleast not around my neighborhood i know an alcoholic who gets foodstamps and she tries to give people her card to use on food and they'd give her cash she tries all the time to buy it on her card and it doesnt work. they dont allow you to buy anything hot (premade food like seafood) or anything that you cant eat, and u cant eat cigarettes.they're learning how to stop that stuff nowi. it's all computerized. you can have the alcohol and cigarettes mixed in with the food items but after you pay with the ebt card your left with the cost of the alcohol and cigarettes you have to pay for with cash. but they can still buy steak and frozen bagged seafood which i dont agree with at all.

I agree I have been waiting in line at stores where people are buying Beer and Ciqrettes and Lottery tickets on a Welfare Card, I also seen people at a store in capehart keep on buying small things on foodstamps to get enough change to buy unathrized items. It isn't anything the stores can do as they need to accept the Card on any product that they are buying legal. It makes the Cashiers upset as they see what is going on.

Also people with food stamps should not be buying $10 a pound steaks and seafood. There must be a way to regulate this.
